Wolwaeren

a local product

What was the impact industrialisation had on people? Where crafts were mechanised, people became subordinate to the capabilities of machines. In addition, consumers hardly understand what the chain of a product actually consists of.

wolwaeren

Wolwaeren wants to explain the meaning of the various stages in the chain and quantify the value of the various stages that are added. Texel Wool is for farmers currently a worthless product, costs of sheep shearing are higher than the yield of wool. Wolwaeren is a system that manages the entire chain, from raw wool till selling the final products. Wolwaeren adds value to the wool and provides fair compensation for farmers.
The blankets are produced on the island of Texel on specially designed wooden looms woven by people with mental and physical limitations. Heat is the primary need of a human being, a blanket is the product offering you the first comfort after birth and the last when you die. The series consists of seven Texel Wool Blankets in which the various stages of applied yarns create a unique look and feel. Wolwaeren brings the ancient culture of wool blankets back in the Netherlands with the objective to process the locally produced materials as close as possible to the source.
