Pakhuis de Zwijger is a unique, independent cultural organisation in Amsterdam. They organise lectures, activities and programmes around the theme ‘a city in transition’ and look at urgent and complex urban challenges. The subjects vary from politics and culture to neighborhood-communities and urban argiculture; from healthcare and work to design and photograpy. In 2018, Pakhuis de Zwijgers opened a dependance in New West: New Metropolis. In this place, ‘the city of tommorow’ is created. The organisation is situated within society and realises programmes around relevant themes for this neighborhood. It has become a place for local residents to meet, share knowledge and experiences, to inform and inspire eachother. Among other things they set up an education programme for children from group 8, lectures themes ‘youth criminality in New West’ and they organise a monthly storytell night.
